  • Differences between Lace Closures, Silk Base and Frontal

When selecting hair extensions and weaves, the aim is to always keep a natural appearance. Nobody would want their hair to look fake and easily detected as an installation, which is often a result of leaving the front area uncovered. It all depends on effective weaving techniques that can avoid the hassle of hair extensions being detected and forceful blending of original hair texture with a fake one.

There are two types of base closures - lace closure and silk base that can be sewn, taped or glued down. The aim of both base closures is the same, however in their nature they are quite different. For those who are confused as to what closure suits them the most, following is the description and differences between the two types of closure.

    Lace Closures

Lace closures are designed with lace foundation. Human hair strands are embedded inside the small holes. Lace closure bring out a more genuine look. Furthermore, it ensures an easy and flat application. Girls who are new at using installations would find it easy to use.

    Silk Closures

The silk breathable closures are structured with silk mesh with thin skin or poly strip across the outer covering of the mesh that strengthens the base and ensures easy bonding. Silk closures are most suitable for freestyle parting. Silk closures are designed with an additional flesh stocking beneath the base which makes the scalp look natural. The knots are sealed to ensure that the hair remains firmly attached to the base for the required time.

    Lace Frontal

Lace front is an attachment of realistic hairline that mimics hair growth from scalp. Lace frontals generally cover a wider area than base closures for they cover a temple to temple hairline. This feature in combination with natural hairline replication allows many hairstyles to be formed, in contrast to the other closures. A lace front, similar to it’s wig counterparts, requires knot sealing to ensure a firm connection with the cap.

Closures general allow freedom of free styling. The freestyle closure cap allows you to a have a partition anywhere you like and create whichever style suits you best. A good installation of closure can help you come up with various styles. However, there is one restriction. It does not completely keep the hair off the face. Closures often fail to completely cover the temple line which makes it difficult to pull of styles like buns and high pony tails. One similarity is that they are all 100% human hair extensions, so no matter which one you choose, it will give you a natural look.

Generally, hairstyles that keep hair from coming on the face are acquired through lace frontals. Lace frontals help you achieve any style you may desire, while completely pulling the hair off the face. The only restriction is to bond the lace frontal well with a glue or clip.

In general the lifespan of both closures and lace frontal is 3-12 months, depending on the quality and use. If used with care, silk closures can ensure a longer lifespan, whereas lace frontals are effective and can be used within 12 months of purchase. This is because they involve heavy gluing which reduces the quality after each use.
